2009 Dennis Seinfeld Emerging Leader: Keith Blocker
City Club of Tacoma is pleased to announce the winner of the 2009 Dennis Seinfeld Emerging Leader award: Keith Blocker. Mr. Blocker was selected for his energy, devotion, and significant contributions to The Conversation, a group of community members who gather to focus on issues of social justice, and The Race and Pedagogy Initiative, a University of Puget Sound program that seeks to address issues of race as it relates to teaching practices. When notified of his selection from among all the nominations, Blocker was surprised and commented that, �Living in Tacoma has enriched my life and I like to be part of the enrichment of Tacoma.�
The American Leadership Forum and Davies Pearson are proud to sponsor City Club�s annual Leadership Luncheon, featuring Tacoma native Brian Boyd of the Forest and Sequoia Foundations. The luncheon will honor the Mr. Blocker as well as award finalists Tammi L. Barber, Matt Dmytryszyn, Robbie Firestone, Bett Lucas, and Sonja Morgan. Mr. Boyd, a passionate advocate for civic engagement, will share examples of unconventional local efforts in civic engagement and share his perspective on what civic engagement means in a time of rapid advancement in computing and communication technology.

Other events where Blocker has brought together youth and leadership to discuss civic and social issues are FreshKids Barbeque and Community Dialogue and an interfaith service celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
About Brian Boyd
Brain Boyd manages Grantmaker Consultants, Inc. and serves as the executive director of the Sequoia and Forest Foundations, overseeing the development and implementation of both Foundations� charitable giving initiatives and community building efforts. His background includes over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit field. Before joining the staff at GCI in 1998, Boyd worked in social work, environmental education and national service. He has served on various local and regional planning and advisory committees, councils and boards.

About Dennis Seinfeld and the Emerging Leader Award Each year City Club of Tacoma recognizes an individual who demonstrates the qualities and values of leadership but is not yet acknowledged as an established leader in our community. The award was originated in memory of Dennis J. Seinfeld, a well-known and civic-minded Tacoma attorney and one of the original members of City Club.
