CITY CLUB of Tacoma was founded
in 1984 through the leadership of Lilly Warnick and Patricia
Lantz, both past presidents and honorary board members.
The club was patterned after other highly successful City
Clubs in the United States, especially those in Portland
and Seattle, as well as the Commonwealth Club in San
Francisco. CITY CLUBs success was
dramatic and immediate. Programs of outstanding
quality, presented in a stimulating environment, drew a
broad membership base of interested and involved people.
The early success of the club has continued.
The club has a membership of more than 500 and offers
members two programs each month.
CITY CLUB of Tacoma also continues to undertake
in-depth studies of important local issues that have
included such topics as the Tacoma Waterfront Study,
the future of the ASARCO smelter site, violence in the
schools, Cross-Sound transportation and local
governance.
