December 15, 2010 -- LUNCH: Kathleen Merryman—Habitat for Humanity in Nepal
A hundred miles from Katmandu, where the sun rises over the Himalayas, a team of six Pierce County volunteers, which included News Tribune reporters Kathleen Merryman and Mike Archbold, started the month of October by building a house alongside strangers. Kathleen stated that she wanted to "send back word of what it's like to raise a roof on the roof of the world."
At City Club's special holiday luncheon program on December 15, she and Mike will share slides, music, crafts, and stories about their experience with the Habitat for Humanity Everest Build.
They said the purpose was for hundreds of volunteers from all over the world to join together to "shine a light on the scourge of substandard housing and demonstrate what can be accomplished when families, communities, and nations come together to build a future where every man, woman, and child has a decent place to live."
Hear about the personal experiences that unfolded a hundred miles from Katmandu, where a house took shape in less than a week.
