May 18, 2011 -- LUNCH: When can we expect the next big one?
After the earthquakes and tsunamis that have devastated Japan, and on the 31st anniversary of Mount Saint Helens's eruption, City Club's lunch program will look to the natural disasters that could strike our region.
Are we "due" for a major earthquake? Are our buildings up to code? Can there really be tsunamis in the Puget Sound? Do we have adequate warning systems in place for earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes?
Our speakers are Ted Buehner, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service, and a representative from the U.S. Geological Survey.
Lunch: Doors open at 11:30 am, lunch starts at 12:00, and the progam ends by 1:15.
RSVP via email by Monday, May 16 at 5:00 pm. Members: $22; Guests of Members: $27; General Public: $30. Pre-payment is required and no-shows will be billed.
This program coordinated by Clark Mather.
